There are so many varieties of digital weight scales that it can be overwhelming for a customer in deciding which weight scale is right for them. There are all kinds of weight scales and weight balances in the market today. The first step in the purchase of a scale is in determining what the scale is going to be used for. What kind of scale capacity or scale resolution do you need. Or do you need a combination of both of these things. The scale capacity is the total amount of weight that the scale can handle. The scale resolution, also referred to as display resolution, is the smallest increment of weight (for example .05 grams) which the numeric display can show.

A digital weight scale can be used to measure anything that can fit in its bowl or tray. They can in many shapes and sizes. Some are even small enough to fit in your shirt pocket. The smaller scales read mainly in grams, ounces, pennyweight, troy ounces and carats. The larger scales read in ounces, pounds and kilos. Most come equipped with excellent warranties from the manufacturer.

Some of the most popular scales sold today include:

Talking bathroom scales are great for people that want to monitor their weight but are blind or visually impaired so that they cannot read the display.

Newline Digital Talking Bathroom Scale SCB-105 -

This basic scale can be found for less than $50.  This is a talking scale that has all of the features of standard digital bathroom scale.  For instance, it can hold up to 440 pounds, so most people will have no issue with using this scale.  It is accurate within 1 percent of your body weight.  However, what makes this scale stand apart from others is that it is a talking bathroom scale.  The voice can announce your weight in either kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb).  You can turn the voice off if you do not want to use.  There is also a large LED display for those that can read the display.  This is the scale I would recommend if you need one with voice announcements.

My Weigh Phoenix TBF 440 Talking Body Fat Scale 2009 Version -

Having to use a talking bathroom scale does not mean that you have go without the function of reading your body fat percentage.  Lately, this feature is becoming standard on most scales so you are starting to expect it.  With the TBF 440 you get the benefit of voice announcements along with the ability to read your body fat percentage.  This scale can also be found for around $50 so I would definitely recommend this one.

My Weigh FunWeigh Fun Talking Digital Scale -

Okay, a talking bathroom scale does not just have to be for the visually impaired.  While this scale does help those that cannot see the readout display, it also adds some fun by having joke expressions built in so that when you step on the scale you may hear something like, "Is someone else on here with you?" or "I think you just broke me".  This can be funny for a while, but there only 8 different phrases so you will probably get used to them after a couple weeks.  However, this talking bathroom scale still does the job you want it to do so if you think that the joke expressions may help brighten the beginning of your day I would suggest this scale.

One important function that all of these scales include is the ability to turn off the voice feature.  There may be times when you want to weigh yourself but not announce your weight to everyone within hearing distance.

Salter bathroom scales are top tier scales and are some of the best scales I have tried.  Most people are just interested in knowing their weight and wouldn't mind having a nice looking scale that they don't have to hide away in their bathroom closet.  Salter bathroom scales are not only very accurate, but they all have very sleek looks.

Salter Digital Silver Scale 9037 -

This is one of the Salter bathroom scales that can be found for a very low price, often below $40.  This model is very sleek and slim.  As the name applies, the scale is silver in color.  The LCD readout is a very easy to read 2" so even tall people can read the numbers without having to bend down.  The platform is wide so that just about anyone will be comfortable stepping onto this scale.

Salter bathroom scales have a lifetime warranty so you can be assured that your investment will last.  On the rare occasion that there is a problem with the scale, Salter will gladly honor their warranty.

Salter 979 Large Digital Platform Bathroom Scale with Raised Display -

Of the Salter bathroom scales, the 979 has a very unique design.  First of all, the platform is white with a clear coating.  It is a beautiful finish that many people will enjoy.  However, what really stands out is the raised display.  The display is raised several inches above the platform.  Combined with a large 2 inch LCD display, the raised display makes this the easiest to read of all Salter bathroom scales.  If you have trouble seeing the display on most bathroom scales I would highly suggest the Salter 979 scale.  This scale can be found for around $60-70.

Salter 9108 Body Fat and Body Water Scale -

While most Salter bathroom scales just focus on providing you with your weight, the 9108 has the added advantage of providing you with your body fat and body water percentage.  This feature is great for people that consider that just losing weight is not enough and that they want to reach a certain proportion of body mass.

The 9108 also provides a BMI reading and caloric reference information so that you can get a ballpark figure of what you can eat each day to maintain or lose weight.

The Pelouze digital scale model PE10 is one of many scales produced by Pelouze that is used as a postage scale.  For people that need to weigh small packages or large envelopes, this Pelouze digital scale will fit the needs perfectly.  The scale is very accurate so you will not run into the problem of underpaying postage, or more importantly, overpaying postage.  The PE10 includes a postal rate chart to help determine the amount of postage that you will need.

While the PE10 is for mailers/shippers that send small packages or envelopes, you can look at the P250S for your larger packages.  This Pelouze digital scale has a capacity of 250 pounds!  This is a heavy duty scale that is meant to handle some abuse.  The platform is 12.5" X 13.5", which can be small for some large packages.  To solve that problem, the P250S has a Memory-Lock feature so that you can read the weight after you remove the large package.

Pelouze actually makes several digital postal scales.  One of their scales has a USB interface so that you can connect to your computer to use postage printing software.  Supported software includes DYMO Stamps and Endicia software.  Not only that, but the USB cable powers the scale so if you are using the USB cable you do not have to worry about an AC adapter or having fresh batteries.

Overall, if you are looking for a scale to assist you with shipping or mailing, you will want to consider a Pelouze digital scale.
